Gymnasts from the Academy competed at the County Artistic all-around Women’s Artistic Championships, which took place on Sunday 7th October at New College, Leicester.
The squad was represented in 4 different Level including level 7, 6 5 and 5+.
First up in the morning session was our Level 7 and level 5 gymnasts and starting the team off on A-bars was level 7 gymnast Anna Acourt, followed closely by first time competitor Ruby Maddern. Both girls performed clean routines, providing a great start to the competition. Next up on bars were our level 5 girls, Jemima, Felicity, Isla and Millie. Despite some mistakes in warm-up, all girls produced precise routines and set a great tone for the rest of the event.
Moving onto beam, not all girls went without error, but stuck routines from Jemima, Anna & Ruby proved beam can be conquered! Next up was floor and for the club one our showcase pieces. With all girls performing with extra poise, energy and amplitude, they were rewarded with some excellent scores. To close the competition they finished on Vault and whilst this is not the strongest piece of apparatus for some of our girls, they all held their nerve and produced some of their best vaults.
With all pieces complete the girls waited for the medal presentation. At level 7 (8/9 years), Ruby Madder won silver and Anna Acourt took the title as well as the all around L7 highest score trophy. At level 5 (9/10yrs), Jemima Shore won the bronze medal and Felicity Coles took the County title as well the all around L5 highest score trophy. Also at Level 5, Millie Noon finished 9th & Isla Mardel, 12th. A fabulous start to our competition.
Next up was the level 5 + competition where we had one competitor in the 13 years section, Rhianna Potter. Despite feeling ill in the build up to the competition and not feeling her best on the day, she demonstrated that even under the weather she could still pull out some great performances. With one minor mistake on beam, the rest of her routines were clean and enough to be rewarded with the clubs 3rd County title of the competition.
Finally was the level 6 competition, where again the club had 1 gymnast entered in the 8/9 years section. 8 year old Hannah had some tough competition, but this did not stop her putting in some of her best ever performances. With no mistakes and excellent scores on bars and vault, she managed to finish an amazing 4th place.
